Curve Lake, ON – September 18, 2025 – The National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association (NALMA) proudly celebrates the appointment of Leona Irons-Cummings, C.M., to the Order of Canada, one of the nation’s highest civilian honours. Leona was officially recognized today at the Order of Canada Investiture Ceremony, held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

A proud member of Curve Lake First Nation, Leona Irons-Cummings has dedicated her life to empowering Indigenous communities in the stewardship and governance of their lands. As the Executive Director of NALMA, she has been the guiding force behind the organization’s growth into a national family of land managers committed to sustainable, culturally grounded practices.
Leona’s leadership has fostered a strong network of lands managers who support one another through mentorship, professional development, and knowledge sharing. This NALMA family continues to build capacity and legacy in communities across Canada, ensuring that First Nations have the tools and confidence to exercise autonomy over their ancestral lands.
The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to community, and service to the nation. Leona’s appointment is not only a personal milestone but also a recognition of the collective accomplishments of the NALMA family and the legacy they continue to build.
