You have already done the groundwork and pre-planning. Now it is time to write a land use plan (LUP). This 2.5-day course guides Lands Managers through the planning phase of a LUP project – from analyzing land constraints and projecting community growth, choosing land use categories, and developing and evaluating options for the future, to writing the policies and actions that will guide growth and development on reserve. Using real-world examples, participants will practice the planning skills needed to translate technical data and community input into a LUP that is clear, defensible, and ready for community approval. Additional topics include community engagement techniques for developing the draft LUP, GIS mapping, implementation tools, and an introduction to planning in the Traditional Territory. Completion of this course prepares participants for NALMA’s Category 2 LUP funding program.
